Samsung Display has found an interesting way to promote QD-OLED technology. The company has launched a certification programme in China for internet cafes equipped with OLED gaming monitors. By the end of 2026, 60 locations are set to receive a special designation where gamers will be able to test the capabilities of the new screens in person.
Internet cafes full of QD-OLED monitors
Samsung Display has partnered with six monitor makers: AOC, ASUS, HKC, MSI, TitanArmy and ViewSonic. To receive official certification, an internet cafe must be equipped with at least 30 monitors using Samsung's QD-OLED panels.
Certified venues will receive special signage, promotional materials and dedicated gaming stations. By the end of October the programme already included 10 cafes, including ones in Beijing and Shanghai. Their number is expected to rise to 60 by the end of the year.
Interestingly, according to operators of the first venues, stations with QD-OLED monitors are especially popular with FPS players and sometimes fill up faster than standard seats.
Have the Chinese fallen in love with gaming OLEDs?
Why did Samsung decide to focus on internet cafes? According to the manufacturer, they account for 30 to 40% of gaming OLED monitor sales in China.
IDC data also show a huge rise in the popularity of the technology. In 2023 about 25,000 gaming monitors with self-emissive displays were sold in China. By 2025 there were 560,000 of them, 22 times more.
Samsung wants to capitalise on that popularity and convince more gamers to switch to QD-OLED by giving them the chance to try the technology before buying their own monitor.
