Xbox turns 25, and to mark the occasion Microsoft has prepared a range of treats for players. The company has released new customisation options for consoles and apps, a special anniversary badge and a collection of iconic games on Xbox Game Pass. The full schedule for the global Xbox FanFest tour has also been revealed, and it will visit several major cities later this year.
Microsoft has released new themes, badges and a collection of games for Xbox's 25th anniversary
The celebrations for Xbox's 25th anniversary began with the release of new personalisation items created in collaboration with the community. Microsoft invited creators known as Klobrille and Ben Kenobi to the project; they produced special profile pictures, wallpapers and a dynamic theme for Xbox consoles. All items are available immediately to console users and in the Xbox app on PC. The company is also encouraging players to share their own designs using the hashtag #Xbox25. At the same time a special 25th anniversary badge has started rolling out. Every user who signs in to their Xbox account on console, PC or the mobile app will receive it. The badge will be available until the end of 2026 and can be displayed on the player's profile. Microsoft has also prepared a special collection on Xbox Game Pass that highlights the most important games in the platform's history. The lineup includes Fable Anniversary, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Fallout 4 and Psychonauts 2. It's a nod to the key titles that accompanied successive generations of Xbox consoles.
Xbox FanFest will visit seven cities, and Microsoft promises more attractions
Microsoft has also revealed the full schedule for this year's Xbox FanFest tour. Events will take place, among others, during gamescom in Cologne, the Tokyo Game Show in Japan and in London, Mexico City, Sydney, Toronto and Seattle. Each stop is set to be an opportunity to meet the Xbox community and take part in special activities organised by the company. Tickets for the events won't be sold in the usual way. Instead, attendees will be able to obtain them through draws held separately for each city. Microsoft says FanFest is primarily intended to bring players together and celebrate the brand's shared history. At the same time, the company has launched a special hub dedicated to Xbox's 25th anniversary, where further information about events, products and anniversary initiatives will be published. Microsoft says more surprises tied to the anniversary will be announced in the coming months. All of these activities are building towards the main celebrations on 15 November, when the Xbox brand will officially mark its 25th birthday.
