MSI has unveiled the new MAG 256QP36 gaming monitor, which pairs a compact 24.5-inch diagonal with WQHD resolution and a refresh rate of up to 360 Hz. It's a compelling option for esports players who want a sharper image than Full HD while keeping smooth, high frame rates.
360 Hz and the special SLMB-Sync technology
The new monitor uses a Rapid IPS panel with a resolution of 2560 × 1440 pixels. Thanks to a relatively small screen diagonal it offers a pixel density of around 120 PPI, which is higher than typical 27-inch WQHD monitors.
The manufacturer quotes a response time of 0.5 ms (GtG, minimum) and a 360 Hz refresh rate. The most interesting feature, however, is SLMB-Sync, which allows the simultaneous use of motion blur reduction technology and variable refresh rate (VRR).
In practice this should deliver a sharper image of moving objects without having to give up refresh synchronisation. The monitor supports AMD FreeSync Premium and is G-Sync Compatible.
Two HDMI 2.1 ports and DisplayHDR 400
The MSI MAG 256QP36 also offers two HDMI 2.1 ports supporting WQHD at 360 Hz, plus DisplayPort 1.4a. It also has height adjustment, screen swivel and a pivot function.
The panel covers 95% of the DCI-P3 colour space, has a 1200:1 contrast ratio and a peak HDR brightness of 400 nits. The monitor is DisplayHDR 400 certified, though you shouldn't expect HDR performance comparable to advanced Mini LED or OLED displays.
Price and availability
MSI has not yet revealed the price or the launch date for the MAG 256QP36. It's also unclear when the monitor will reach Polish retailers.
