Wizards of the Coast is cancelling the new Dungeons & Dragons game. The project from the creator of God of War has been cancelled.

Calendar 5/20/2026

Wizards of the Coast has cancelled the new game set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons, which was being developed by Giant Skull, a studio founded by the former director of the God of War and Star Wars Jedi series. The project was scrapped just a few months after its official announcement.

Ambitious action game didn't last even a year

The new production was intended to be a single-player action and adventure game set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. The project was handled by Giant Skull studio, created by Stig Asmussen, who previously worked on titles including God of War III and the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order series. According to Bloomberg, Wizards of the Coast cancelled the project during an internal review of upcoming games. However, the company emphasizes that it still maintains a good relationship with the Giant Skull studio.

This isn't the first issue related to the Dungeons & Dragons brand in recent months. Recently, a cooperative project codenamed Project Baxter, developed by Starbreeze Studios, was also cancelled. Currently, the only officially confirmed major D&D game remains the Warlock project being developed by Invoke studio. At the same time, the head of Hasbro recently suggested that other unannounced productions are also in the works in this universe.

Hasbro still wants to invest billions in AAA games

Despite further cancelled projects, Hasbro does not intend to give up on the gaming market. The company plans to invest up to a billion dollars in the development of large AAA productions based on brands such as Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering. Interestingly, the corporation is currently focusing mainly on classic single player games instead of the live service model.

Wizards of the Coast cancelled the new Dungeons & Dragons game from Giant Skull studio led by the director of God of War III and Star Wars Jedi. The project didn't survive even a year from its official announcement.
