Spider-Noir is set to be the most unconventional Marvel production.

Calendar 5/23/2026

Spider-Noir is a new live-action series set in the Spider-Man universe that is set to differ significantly from classic superhero stories. The creator of the production, Oren Uziel, has revealed new details about the series and the collaboration with Nicolas Cage.

Spider-Man in a 30s noir style

The series will tell the story of an older and significantly more experienced hero than previous versions of Spider-Man. Nicolas Cage will portray Ben Reilly, a private detective operating in 1930s New York, who has long abandoned his superhero past. When criminals with supernatural abilities start appearing in the city, the hero is forced to don the mask again. The creators emphasize that the inspiration came from classic noir films featuring actors like Humphrey Bogart and James Cagney.

Nicolas Cage is heavily committed to the role

Oren Uziel revealed that Cage took the project very seriously and by the first rehearsals, he practically knew the scripts off by heart. The actor regularly suggested his own ideas inspired by classic noir cinema, and the creators wanted to develop a version of Spider-Man that was completely different from all previous screen interpretations. According to the showrunner, the series is set to portray a hero who is more psychologically broken and worn out by life than earlier versions of the character.

The creators want to avoid the typical superhero vibe

Uziel believes that Spider-Noir may appeal to viewers tired of classic superhero productions. The series is intended to be more of a detective story and a noir drama than a traditional Marvel spectacle. A strong emphasis has been placed on the visual style, the atmosphere of old cinema, and more cinematic framing reminiscent of comics. The project is also backed by producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creators of the animated Spider-Verse. Spider-Noir will debut on May 27 on Prime Video and MGM+. The creators also acknowledge that they see potential for additional seasons of the series.

Spider-Noir is set to be a completely different take on Spider-Man. Nicolas Cage will portray an older, dark hero set in the 1930s noir atmosphere, and the series is expected to diverge significantly from traditional superhero productions.
