After a few years away, Spider-Man is back on the big screen. Sony Pictures has released a new trailer for the film Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which expands on events from No Way Home and shows what Peter Parker will have to face this time. The footage reveals more scenes with the Hulk and the Punisher, who will play a significant role in the upcoming story. There are also new clues about the mysterious mutation of the main character. Everything suggests that Marvel is preparing one of the most personal Spider-Man stories in Tom Holland's portrayal.
Peter Parker faces his biggest challenge in years
The film is set four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Peter Parker is living alone after deciding to erase his identity from the memories of everyone close to him. No one remembers his former life, and he devotes himself entirely to fighting crime in New York. The new trailer, however, suggests that his day-to-day superhero work isn't his biggest problem right now. Peter begins to experience troubling changes in his body. In one scene he turns to Bruce Banner for help, trying to understand the nature of his transformation. The hero even wonders whether it would be possible to remove the negative effects of the mutation while keeping its positive aspects. Banner doesn't offer easy answers and warns that tampering with nature can have serious consequences. Everything indicates that this mysterious evolution will become the film's main thread. The trailer also shows that Peter is the only person able to perceive a new threat emerging in the city. It's not yet clear what this force actually is, but its impact on New Yorkers seems highly dangerous. As a result, Spider-Man finds himself alone again against a problem no one else can see. That may force him to make some particularly tough decisions.
Hulk and Punisher will play an important role in the new story
One of the biggest surprises of the film will be the appearance of several well-known characters from the Marvel universe. The new trailer clearly highlights Bruce Banner's role, who at key moments turns back into the Hulk. The green giant is set to help Peter understand the changes happening to him and to support him in the fight against a new threat. The return of Frank Castle, aka the Punisher, looks equally interesting. The character played by Jon Bernthal hasn't lost his trademark style and already dishes out some very blunt advice to Peter in the trailer. The creators suggest the Punisher could act as a brutal mentor who forces Spider-Man to take more decisive action. The film will also feature Matt Murdock, known as Daredevil, and Mac Gargan, who will reprise the role of the Scorpion. Additionally, new characters are joining the cast, and their roles remain a mystery. Peter's reunion with MJ also raises strong emotions. She still doesn't remember the events from the previous films, which could turn out to be one of the most emotional elements of the whole story. Marvel is clearly focusing this time not only on spectacular action, but also on the development of relationships between the characters. At the same time, there are suggestions that Brand New Day could pave the way for an entirely new trilogy with Tom Holland. If that happens, the film will be hugely significant for the future of Spider-Man in the Marvel cinematic universe.
The new trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day reveals more details about the mysterious transformation of Peter Parker and the roles of the Hulk and the Punisher in the upcoming story. The film looks set to be a darker, more personal tale about a hero who once again must face his problems on his own. The release is scheduled for 31 July 2026.
