Sony has unveiled two new headsets for PlayStation: Pulse and Pulse Edge. The company builds on features from the Pulse Elite, but this time it more clearly differentiates the feature sets. The Edge gets most of the new additions, including active noise cancellation, a detachable microphone and separate volume controls for game audio and voice chat.

Console audio and phone connection simultaneously

Both models have larger planar magnetic drivers, which Sony says provide fuller bass while maintaining detail and precise sound positioning. The ability to use PlayStation Link and Bluetooth at the same time will also be useful. The headphones can therefore stay connected to the console and a phone. Link supports PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC and Mac, and a USB-C adapter is included. Sony has also changed the design. Rotating ear cups let the headphones fold flat.

Pulse Edge with ANC and two ways to chat

The biggest standout of the Pulse Edge is active noise cancellation, useful when gaming in a room shared with other household members. This model also gets a detachable boom microphone. After removing it you can still talk thanks to a built-in microphone. There are also buttons to adjust the balance between game and chat on PS5, an audio jack and a case. Differences also extend to the drivers: the Edge has eight magnets per driver, while the base Pulse has four. Sony says this change brings further improvement to the bass.

You'll have to wait separately for the new models. The Pulse will arrive in selected markets during the 2026 holiday season, while the Pulse Edge will appear in early 2027. Both will be available in white and Midnight Black. Sony has not revealed prices or exact pre-order dates yet. For now, it's the Edge that's drawing more attention, mainly because of ANC.
