Sonos has unveiled two new audio devices: the Beam Ultra soundbar and the Ace Ultra headphones. The Beam Ultra promises a more expansive Dolby Atmos sound thanks to nine drivers, including two upward-firing ones. The manufacturer has also improved dialogue playback and equipped the device with an AI Speech Enhancement feature. The Ace Ultra feature improved ANC, 40-millimetre drivers and up to 35 hours of battery life with noise cancellation enabled. Both devices will ship on 29 September, priced at €699 and €449 respectively.
Sonos Beam Ultra offers stronger Dolby Atmos
Sonos has introduced a new soundbar, the Beam Ultra, to its lineup, which is intended to deliver a more expansive spatial soundstage than the previous second-generation Beam. The compact design features nine drivers, while the previous model used a 5.1.2-channel configuration. The Beam Ultra includes, among other things, two upward-firing drivers. Because of this, the unit supports Dolby Atmos in a 7.1.2 configuration. The manufacturer also promises improved low-frequency performance. The centre channel has been designed to deliver clearer dialogue. Sonos has also implemented an AI Speech Enhancement feature to improve speech intelligibility. This technology was previously demonstrated during a software update for other products in the range. The Beam Ultra remains a smaller and cheaper option than the flagship Arc Ultra. The Arc Ultra still remains the only Sonos soundbar equipped with Sound Motion technology, which is said to provide deeper bass. However, the Beam Ultra can be expanded with additional Sonos components, including rear speakers and a subwoofer. This is one of the key strengths of the manufacturer’s ecosystem, as it allows you to gradually build up a home theatre system. However, bear in mind the new soundbar does not support DTS and is limited to basic DTS.

The other new product is the Sonos Ace Ultra headphones, which develop the idea of using headphones as part of a home cinema system. Like the standard Ace, the new model can receive spatial audio from movies and TV shows played through a compatible Sonos soundbar. The Ace Ultra uses spatial audio technology in conjunction with a soundbar that supports Dolby Atmos. The multichannel soundtrack is converted into spatial sound played through the headphones' two stereo drivers. That lets you watch films surrounded by spatial audio without needing speakers audible to other people. Sonos has also equipped the Ace Ultra with Headphone Engine 2. Sound is handled by 40 mm drivers. The maker has also improved the active noise cancellation (ANC). Battery life on a single charge is said to be up to 35 hours with ANC on. Users can also easily switch Sonos system audio to the headphones with one button. The Sonos Beam Ultra costs US$699, £699 or €699, while the Ace Ultra is priced at US$449, £399 or €449. Both devices will ship on 29 September.
