Samsung used Gamescom 2026 to unveil its first OLED monitors aimed at 2027. The company showed three new Odyssey models that emphasise high refresh rates and modern QD-OLED panels. The standout is the Odyssey G9 with a 49-inch screen, 5120 × 1440 resolution and a 360 Hz refresh rate. Samsung also unveiled a 32-inch Odyssey G8 and a 42-inch Odyssey G7, which is said to be the first curved 16:9 OLED monitor of that screen size. The manufacturer hasn't yet announced prices or exact launch dates for the new models.
Samsung Odyssey G9 gets an even faster and more efficient OLED panel
The biggest new model announced is the Odyssey G9 G95SJ. It’s a 49-inch ultrawide using a fifth-generation Penta Tandem QD-OLED panel. The monitor offers DQHD resolution of 5120 × 1440 pixels. The maximum refresh rate is 360 Hz, which is very high for a screen at that resolution. Samsung has also included a special Dual Mode that lets you switch the monitor to 2560 × 720 resolution and reach as much as 720 Hz. The panel can achieve a peak brightness of up to 1300 nits. The manufacturer also uses an RGB Stripe pixel layout, which should improve text legibility and graphics clarity. Samsung says the new panel generation is up to 1.3 times more energy-efficient than the previous one. According to the company, its lifespan could be up to twice as long. The G95SJ will replace the current Odyssey G9 G95SD, so buyers will need to watch the model designation. The letter 'J' in the name indicates this is the generation prepared for 2027. Samsung has not yet announced the price or the exact on-sale date for this monitor.
Odyssey G7 and G8 show Samsung is betting big on high refresh rates
The second major newcomer is the Odyssey G7 G75SJ, which is meant to stand out mainly for its unusual size and design. Samsung markets it as the world's first 42-inch curved OLED monitor with a 16:9 aspect ratio. The screen offers 4K resolution and a 165 Hz refresh rate. Response time is said to be just 0.03 ms, which should particularly appeal to players of fast-paced titles. The manufacturer has also applied a strong 1000R curvature to increase immersion. Samsung has not described this panel as QD-OLED, so for now it has not been confirmed exactly how the panel is constructed. The other model is the 32-inch Odyssey G8 G80SJ with a fifth-generation Penta Tandem QD-OLED panel. It delivers 4K resolution and up to 360 Hz refresh. With Triple Mode you can also switch to 1440p at 520 Hz or Full HD at 680 Hz. The monitor will also support HDR, include an HDMI 2.1 port, DisplayPort 2.1 and a USB-C with up to 98 W power delivery. Samsung has not yet provided prices or exact release dates for these new OLED models.
Samsung also prepared an LCD monitor with 1100 Hz refresh
At Gamescom 2026 there was another interesting announcement, though this time it isn’t an OLED monitor. Samsung confirmed that the 27-inch Odyssey G7 with an IPS LCD panel will ultimately offer a refresh rate of as much as 1100 Hz. Earlier the maker had been touting 1040 Hz for this model. Such an extremely high refresh rate will, however, be available only after dropping the resolution to HD. The monitor is due to hit the market in the second half of 2026. Samsung says it will be the fastest refresh-rate screen in its lineup. At the same time, the new OLED monitors are not trying to compete with it only on raw hertz. Thanks to the characteristics of OLED technology, they should deliver very fast response times and high motion clarity. The company did not announce a 25-inch QD-OLED monitor at Gamescom, even though Samsung Display had previously shown such a panel. It’s possible that that model will have to wait until CES 2027. Samsung’s new OLEDs show the company wants to combine high resolutions with refresh rates that until recently were reserved for much simpler screens. Of particular note is the ability to switch between different picture modes, allowing the user to choose either 4K-level detail or extreme smoothness.
