Nintendo might be preparing more new devices. Speculation has emerged online about a possible debut of the Nintendo Switch 2 in an OLED version or a cheaper Lite model. The reason is the latest financial data from the company showing a significant increase in spending on research and development.

Nintendo increases spending on hardware development

According to new reports, Nintendo's spending on research and development has increased year on year by 23.7 percent. The company raised its budget from around 14.3 billion yen to 17.7 billion yen, which immediately sparked speculation among gamers and analysts. Theories have started to emerge on Reddit and Japanese forums that Nintendo might be working on new variants of the Switch 2. The OLED model with a better screen and a cheaper Lite version are the most frequently mentioned. However, for now, these are purely unofficial reports and Nintendo has not confirmed any new hardware.

New clues have emerged online

Additionally, users have pointed out a mysterious code "OSM", which reportedly appeared on the Nintendo Account portal and could relate to an undisclosed device according to some. However, there is no concrete evidence confirming the existence of new models. Speculation suggests that potential new consoles might only appear after planned price changes for the Switch 2 in Japan. Some fans even attempted to estimate the potential prices of new models based on the current differences between the standard Switch, OLED, and Lite. Such calculations suggest around 65,980 yen for the OLED model and about 40,980 yen for the Lite version, but these are just rough predictions.

The increasing spending by Nintendo on technology development has once again sparked rumours about new versions of the Switch 2. For now, the company has not officially announced anything, but players are increasingly expecting the debut of an OLED or Lite model in the future.
