Marathon has been attracting players since its launch with a mix of exploration, PvP battles, and elements of extraction shooters. Many parts of the map require careful navigation and constant monitoring of the environment. An additional threat comes from new enemies that appear exclusively in this area. Bungie also promises an increased presence of UESC forces, which protect important objects located within the complex. Every expedition is set to be more unpredictable than before. The creators emphasize that darkness becomes a fully-fledged element of gameplay, rather than just a visual change. Players will have to learn new methods of movement and combat. Many encounters may start with surprise, and the enemy often remains invisible until the last moment. This significantly increases the tension during exploration. Night Marsh is set to be one of the most challenging locations currently available in Marathon. At the same time, it is here that some of the most valuable rewards set for the second season are hidden.
New equipment will help survive in the dark
To balance the increased level of difficulty, Bungie has also prepared new tools for players. Among the novelties are flashlights, signal flares, and special grenades that illuminate selected areas of the map. There is also new ammunition that allows marking nearby opponents. Players will also receive special Darksight scopes that help detect elements of the environment while aiming. However, using these tools requires a proper strategy. Each light source can not only help but also betray the user's position. The creators encourage careful use of equipment and planning subsequent moves. In Night Marsh, not only accuracy matters, but also the ability to hide one's presence. Well-utilised gadgets can effectively deter opponents or facilitate taking control of important points on the map. Bungie emphasises that the new content is designed to reward cooperation and proper preparation for missions. Players taking greater risks can count on unique loot not available in other parts of the game. This is intended to be the main motivation for exploring new, dangerous terrains.
