According to new information, Netflix has already started testing a new feature with some users in the USA. The assistant works directly within the Netflix app and allows users to search for content using natural questions or mood descriptions. Users can type or speak commands like “I need something sad” or “play something to watch in the background.” The system analyses the query and suggests appropriate movies or series. For now, the feature only responds in text and has limitations with more complex conversations.
Netflix becomes independent from Google, Apple and Amazon
The new solution shows that Netflix is increasingly keen on developing its own AI ecosystem instead of relying on platform assistants from Google, Apple or Amazon. During current tests, the feature works on devices with Google TV, but it may also appear on other TVs and Smart TV boxes in the future. Netflix has been significantly influencing the development of the TV market for years, among other ways through the “Netflix Recommended TV” program, which sets requirements for manufacturers wanting to offer the best app support.
