Fumi Games Studio has officially confirmed that their stylised FPS shooter, Mouse: P.I. For Hire, will debut on April 16, 2026. The game is heading to Xbox Series X|S and will have full optimisation for handheld devices from day one. The title features a unique visual style “rubberhose” rarely seen in 3D games, reminiscent of 1930s black-and-white animations, set in a noir atmosphere.
Combat mechanics and retro-style 2.5D system
Technologically, the game realises the concept of “2.5D”, placing two-dimensional, hand-drawn character sprites in a three-dimensional environment – which directly references classics of the genre, such as DOOM and Wolfenstein 3D. The combat system is based on high mobility (dodges, double jumps) and a specific arsenal. The player can use, among other things, a “Boomstick” (shotgun) and a unique weapon called “Devarnisher”, which fires turpentine causing acid damage, leading to the dissolution of enemy models down to the skeleton in a cartoonish world.
Exploration of Mouseburg and Detective Elements
The structure of the game features an open-world map with a central hub in the form of the town of Mouseburg. The developers have implemented systems that go beyond standard FPS games: the B.A.N.G. workshop for weapon modifications (e.g., alternative fire modes) and a evidence board in Jack Pepper's office, used for linking clues and unlocking further missions. A notable mechanic is the 'tail pick' lock-picking system, which is a mini-game based on the hero's tail movement, along with numerous environmental puzzles that require the use of explosives to unlock pathways.
