Fighting games can be demanding, especially for people who are just starting out with the genre. The creators of MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls want to make it easier for new players to get into the world of fast-paced clashes with Marvel heroes. Ahead of the upcoming open beta, the studio Arc System Works has published a guide outlining the basic gameplay mechanics. Players will learn how to build teams, pull off combos and defend effectively against opponents. The beta will be available on PlayStation 5 and PCs. It’s the first chance to try the game’s key elements before release.

Developers encourage learning the basics and experimenting with heroes

The game's developers advise that new players pay attention to the difficulty level of each character, marked with stars in the hero selection menu. The easiest characters to start with include Captain America, Ms. Marvel, Wolverine, Iron Man and Spider-Man. More demanding fighting styles are offered by Storm and Danger. The developers also suggest building teams made up of heroes who specialise in both melee and ranged combat. New players should begin learning in the Startup Battle mode, which presents the basic gameplay mechanics step by step. The tutorial teaches how to perform basic attacks, create simple combos and use special abilities. A separate section of the guide is also devoted to cooperation between team members. This allows players to gradually get to grips with the more advanced elements of the combat system.

Team-based combat will be the main focus of the gameplay

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls emphasises fast-paced team matches. Players can call in team members to perform assist attacks or seamlessly switch between characters during a fight. The developers also encourage mastering simple attack strings and defensive mechanics such as blocking, Assemble Counter or Crossover. These allow a swift transition from defence to counterattack. The game offers two ways to trigger special moves. Beginners can use the simplified Quick Skill system, while more experienced players have classic button combos at their disposal for greater damage and faster skill‑gauge charging. The open beta will also include a portion of the Episode Mode story, presented as an animated comic showing Spider-Man’s team. After finishing the tutorial, players can immediately put what they’ve learned to the test in matches. The Open Beta will run from 24 to 26 July on PlayStation 5 and PC.

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls aims to entice both fighting-game fans and newcomers to the genre. A comprehensive tutorial, a simplified control scheme and dynamic team battles are meant to make it easier to learn all the mechanics. The open beta will let players see whether Arc System Works' new release has a chance to become one of the most interesting Marvel-based fighting games.
