Nintendo may be preparing the first major hardware change for the Switch 2. A new LCD panel has been spotted online that, according to available information, is said to differ from the display used in current console models. A leak suggests Sharp is responsible for its production rather than the previous supplier. Although the manufacturer has not confirmed any changes, the new information has sparked considerable interest among gamers. That's because the screen was one of the most frequently criticised elements of the Switch 2.
Leak points to a brand-new LCD panel from Sharp
New information comes from a Chinese sales site, where a listing appeared showing a previously unknown LCD panel intended for Nintendo Switch 2. Based on analysis of the model number, it appears to be a display manufactured by Sharp, which could replace the current screen supplier, Innolux. The new panel has different cabling, connectors and electronic circuitry, which suggests a more extensive redesign rather than a simple production change. The model number LS079T1SX10P indicates the use of LTPS LCD technology, a 7.9-inch diagonal and 1080p resolution. Supporting the leak's authenticity is an earlier financial report from Sharp, in which the company said it would increase production of screens for mobile devices from late 2025. It is not known, however, whether the panel will appear in new Switch 2 units later this year or only in a future hardware revision. Nintendo has not commented on the reports. For now, everything remains unofficial. The leak itself, however, is detailed enough to have generated significant interest within the community.

One of the most talked-about topics after the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 was the use of an LCD panel. Many gamers expected an OLED screen, especially since the previous generation had an OLED variant. Nintendo chose to stick with an LCD display, arguing the decision was driven by advances in technology and the capabilities of modern panels. Despite the higher 1080p resolution, the screen was criticised for a relatively slow response time that caused motion blur during quick camera movements. A new panel from Sharp could solve at least some of those issues, although there are currently no details about its specs or image quality. It’s also unclear whether the change would affect brightness, contrast or colour reproduction. For years Nintendo has introduced minor tweaks to its consoles without staging big new-model launches. It’s possible the same approach will be taken with the Switch 2. Until there’s official confirmation, all information should be treated as leaks.
