New leaks suggest that Apple is preparing some of the biggest changes in cameras for years, and the iPhone 18 Pro could be the first step in that direction. If the information is confirmed, Apple will start bringing smartphones even closer to professional cameras, especially in terms of control over the shot and image quality.
Variable Aperture Like in Cameras
The biggest innovation is set to be the variable aperture, a feature known from traditional cameras. In practice, this means the ability to control the amount of light entering the sensor, which provides greater freedom when taking photos. In low light, you can "open" the aperture to achieve brighter shots, and in bright conditions, you can "close" it to avoid overexposure. This solution also has a significant impact on the background blur effect, known as bokeh, which is often simulated in smartphones through software. With a variable aperture, the iPhone could achieve a more natural effect, closer to what DSLR cameras offer. If Apple implements this well, users will gain more control without the need for professional equipment.
Bigger sensor and stronger zoom
However, this is not the end of the planned changes. Apple is working on a significantly larger main sensor, which will translate to better photo quality, especially at night and in challenging lighting conditions. A bigger sensor means more details, better dynamics, and less noise.
The next step is to improve the ultra-wide camera by adding optical image stabilisation, which will enhance the quality of recordings and photos in motion. However, the most impressive development is the zoom, which could reach up to 200 MP, allowing for much better close-ups without significant loss of quality. This positions Apple in direct competition with the top models from other manufacturers.
If these leaks turn out to be true, the iPhone 18 Pro could be one of the biggest leaps forward in mobile photography. Apple is clearly aiming for quality similar to that of professional cameras, while maintaining the ease of use that iPhones are famous for.
