Apple has released the public beta of iOS 27, so users can already try most of the new features prepared for iPhones. Although at WWDC the company heavily promoted artificial intelligence and a refreshed Siri, early tests show the biggest benefits of the update lie elsewhere. The system runs faster, apps launch more smoothly, and the interface feels more responsive. There are also new features that improve everyday use, such as larger widgets and an expanded weather forecast. At the same time, some AI-based additions still seem undercooked and don’t always work as expected. Everything suggests iOS 27 is more of a quality update than a revolution.
Greater speed and practical new features are iOS 27's biggest strengths
The most noticeable change after installing iOS 27 is improved overall system performance. Users testing the beta report faster unlocking, quicker app launches and smoother switching between screens. Apple has focused on performance optimisation, so even everyday tasks feel more responsive. The update also introduces a new extra-large widget size that fills nearly the entire screen. That lets you display much more information without opening an app. It's especially useful in Apple Music, Messages, Weather and Reminders. The Weather app has also been expanded to offer more detailed precipitation and wind-speed charts for both the hourly and weekly forecasts. These are small changes, but they genuinely improve the iPhone experience. It's these kinds of refinements that may turn out to be the most important part of iOS 27 for most users.
Siri AI continues to disappoint, and AI features aren't always convincing
The new Siri AI can perform more cross-app tasks and understands more complex commands, but in tests it often behaved inconsistently. The assistant could ignore voice commands, hang or carry out only part of a request. Problems also occur when searching for information, as responses can be out of date and require extra verification. The new AI-powered photo-editing tools have also drawn mixed reactions. The Extend and Reframe features can expand the frame or change a photo's perspective, but often produce unnatural image distortions. In addition, the way the Notification Centre opens on devices with Siri AI active has been changed, which may be less convenient for some users than before. While Apple puts artificial intelligence at the centre of iOS 27, the current beta shows the technology still needs more refinement before the official release.
Early tests of iOS 27 show that the biggest advantage of the new system isn't the AI features, but the many refinements that improve the iPhone's speed and ease of use. Siri AI and AI-based tools still feel unfinished, while performance optimisation, new widgets and an improved Weather app may turn out to be the changes users appreciate most after the system's autumn release.
