When editing a film, screen space usually runs out just when you need it most. The preview competes for space with the timeline, the media library and other panels. HKC offers a rather unusual solution: the Tianqi 43H180C, a 43.8-inch monitor with a 24:9 aspect ratio and 5760 × 2160 resolution. You can display a full 4K image on it, and alongside it there’s still a 1920 × 2160 pixel area. That’s space for tools without covering what you’re working on.
The unusual form factor comes with a fairly extensive feature set. The manufacturer has implemented a 1000R curve, Mini LED backlight and a 180 Hz refresh rate. It also claims 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space. For connecting a computer there are, among others, DisplayPort 2.1 and a USB-C with up to 96 W power delivery. There's also a KVM that lets you control several connected devices with a single keyboard and mouse. That setup may appeal to people who share a desk between a work laptop and a personal computer.
The most interesting aspect is the screen concept itself: it's as tall as a standard 4K monitor, but with extra space on the side. In practice, this could be a convenient compromise between a single display and a dual-monitor setup. We still need to wait before judging its value for money, since price and wider availability haven't been announced. There's also no information on the number of local dimming zones, so the 'Mini LED' label alone isn't enough yet to assess its HDR capabilities.
