Bandai Namco Entertainment America has announced the release date for Gundam Rogue Orbit, a new action game set in the popular universe. The title will launch on 5 March 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on Steam. The developers have created an entirely new timeline that isn't directly tied to previous events in the saga. The story focuses on humanity's fight for survival against a mysterious threat known as the Apocalypse. Players will control the Gundam Helix and its pilot, RE-X, on missions across various regions of the Solar System.

A new story and a mysterious Gundam

Gundam Rogue Orbit will present events in an entirely new timeline created specifically for the game. Humanity will have to face an unknown threat that jeopardises its survival. The main protagonist is RE-X, an experienced pilot in command of the powerful Gundam Helix. Helping him is Vii, a Haro unit that serves as an intelligent, multi-purpose assistant created specifically for the Gundam Helix. The latest trailer shows further glimpses of the world and the story prepared by Bandai Namco Studios. One of the most mysterious elements in the footage is a black Mobile Suit with distinctive eyes that glow red. Its role in the story has not yet been explained in detail. During his journey RE-X will also meet several other important characters. Among them is Sofia, a mysterious young woman who watches the main character's actions. April, meanwhile, is the captain of the Stellarvane, an independent special-purpose ship carrying out missions against Apocalypse. Another character is Big Paul, the leader of a band of desert pirates hunting Apocalypse. His men also raid valuable convoys to deliver seized supplies to settlers. Elaine, in turn, is the commander of the knights and an exceptionally talented Mobile Suit pilot who personally leads her forces on the front line. The story is set to take players across vast areas of the Solar System.

Your Mobile Suit can be customised to suit your style

An important element of Gundam Rogue Orbit will be an extensive system for customising the main Mobile Suit. Players will be able to choose different types of weapons, frames, thrusters and Apocalypse Units, abbreviated AP‑U. There will also be an option to pick a custom colour scheme for the machine. Individual weapons will have their own actions and abilities, allowing players to change their combat approach depending on the loadout they select. Combat will take place both on the ground and in the air. The developers promise expansive zones where players can engage in dynamic battles. The equipment system is designed to let you build a Mobile Suit around your preferred playstyle, so weapon choice will matter not only visually but also during fights. The game is scheduled for release on 5 March 2027. Pre-orders have already begun for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. Those who pre-order the game will receive, among other things, early access to the Earth Blue colour variant.

Editions and pre-order content

The Standard Edition will include the base version of Gundam Rogue Orbit. The Launch Edition will additionally include a reversible cover, an 11 × 17-inch poster and a promo card for the Gundam Card Game. The Deluxe Edition will be expanded with the Premium Mod Skins Set and the Mobile Suit Color Pack containing 14 colour variants. This edition will also include a digital selection of artwork and music, plus a Mission Reward Booster. The most comprehensive Collector's Edition combines the Launch Edition's contents with all of the Deluxe Edition's digital extras. Everything will be housed in a metal case. The biggest add-on will be an exclusive HG 1/144 ARK-10 GUNDAM HELIX model in Earth Blue. The Collector's Edition will also include a set of five promo cards for the Gundam Card Game. Bandai Namco is therefore not limiting extra content to digital items only. The Gundam Helix model in particular may appeal to collectors of physical series merchandise.
