Grand Theft Auto VI has once again become the centre of huge speculation. Following the leak of an email suggesting that preorders would start as early as May 18, players began preparing for a big announcement from Rockstar Games. However, insiders now claim that nothing of the sort will happen for several more months.
Insiders: GTA 6 is unlikely to kick off preorders in May
Well-known industry insider Tom Henderson admitted that the leaked email related to the Best Buy network was genuine, but it doesn't necessarily mean that preorders will start immediately. According to his information, Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive are likely preparing more extensive marketing activities for July or August, probably around the time of the company's next financial report. Henderson also suggests that promotional materials may have been prepared earlier, but plans changed or there was a mistake on the part of the marketing partners.
Rockstar may completely stop sending review copies
Even more interesting are the new rumours concerning the reviews of GTA 6. According to some insiders, Rockstar is considering completely ceasing the sending of review codes to media and online creators. Instead, the company would organise special closed events where journalists could test the game solely under controlled conditions. Such a move would reduce the risk of leaks and spoilers before the release. This would be a huge departure from previous Rockstar launches, as with Red Dead Redemption 2, standard review copies were normally sent to the media.
Rockstar is becoming increasingly protective of information about GTA 6
It’s no secret that Rockstar is exceptionally protective of all information related to GTA 6. The game has previously fallen victim to huge leaks of development materials, which is why the company may now be implementing much more stringent security measures. Insiders, however, emphasise that for now, most of this information remains unofficial, and Rockstar has still not confirmed details regarding preorders or review strategies.
New information suggests that we likely won’t see GTA 6 preorders until May. There are also reports that Rockstar may completely forego sending review copies to the media prior to the game’s release.
