Gemini arrives on Google TV sets in Europe. TCL has started rolling out the new AI assistant.

Calendar 7/14/2026

Google has begun a European rollout of Gemini on TVs running Google TV. The new AI assistant replaces the previous Google Assistant, offering significantly more advanced voice control capabilities. The first manufacturer to receive the update is TCL. Users will gain easier access to searching for movies, smart home control and personalised recommendations. It’s another step by Google in advancing artificial intelligence on home entertainment devices.

Gemini changes how we use TVs running Google TV

Gemini was created as a new generation of Google’s voice assistant powered by artificial intelligence. It lets users have more natural conversations with their TV without needing specific commands. The assistant helps find films and series even when the viewer can’t remember the title. Gemini can also answer questions, play music and control compatible smart home devices. The rollout began on selected 2026 TCL models in the X11L, C8L, C7L, RM9L and RM7L series. In the coming weeks the feature will also reach the manufacturer’s more affordable models. Some TVs will first require an upgrade to Android 14. The Gemini update itself is installed automatically over the internet and does not require manual user intervention. Google emphasises that the new assistant also makes it easy to control TV settings by voice. The solution is intended to compete with Amazon Alexa+, Samsung’s new Bixby and a future AI-based version of Siri. By using AI, interaction with the TV should be much more intuitive than before. Google says it will continue developing the features in future updates. In time, Gemini is expected to become the central element of the Google TV ecosystem experience.

More brands will get Gemini in 2026

Google has confirmed the rollout will not be limited to TCL TVs. Selected 2025 and 2024 models, including those with the Pentonic 700 processor, will also receive the update. So far no timeline has been given for manufacturers such as Sony or other Google TV partners in Europe. It is known, however, that in North America Gemini is already running on the Google TV Streamer. The assistant currently supports English and French, but the list of supported languages is due to be expanded later this year. By the end of 2026 Google plans to make Gemini available on a wider range of Google TV devices running Android 14 or later. A minimum of 2 GB of RAM will also be required. The company is also developing new features for controlling TV settings by voice. Gemini is set to become one of the most important parts of the Google TV platform in the coming years. The rollout will be phased and could take several more months.
