Does a good projector have to cost several thousand zloty? Chinese company GlowBox has unveiled its first model, the R1, which offers native Full HD resolution, automatic image adjustment and a brightness of 620 CVIA lumens. The biggest surprise, however, is the price: the device costs just 699 yuan, about 500 zł!
GlowBox R1 uses LCD technology with a panel supplied by BOE. The projector offers a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels, a claimed contrast ratio of 3000:1 and support for HDR content. It can also decode 4K films, though it displays them in Full HD.
The manufacturer specifies a brightness of 620 lumens (CVIA), but bear in mind that the Chinese standard differs from the more common ANSI and ISO standards. Only independent tests will show how the device performs in practice.
Up to 120 inches and automatic image adjustment
The GlowBox R1 can project an image up to 120 inches. With a throw ratio of 1.25:1 it needs about 3.3 metres from the wall. An interesting feature is an integrated handle that lets you rotate the projector 360 degrees and project onto the ceiling. The device also includes a ToF sensor and a gyroscope for automatic focus and image geometry correction.
It features Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4 and two 3 W speakers. The whole system runs Dangbei OS, which the manufacturer says does not show ads during boot-up or when casting.
The projector weighs just 1.18 kg, and went on sale in China on 15 October. The price is 699 yuan (about 500 zł). It is not yet known whether the GlowBox R1 will also arrive in Europe.
It’s an interesting budget option, although the actual image quality remains unknown.
