Xbox has prepared another edition of Free Play Days, during which Game Pass subscribers can try selected games for a few days. This time players can look forward to Gears of War: E-Day, Sunderfolk and Asdivine Cross. The main event is the open beta of the multiplayer Gears of War: E-Day, which lets you check out the new game modes ahead of release. Sunderfolk offers a cooperative-focused tactical RPG, while Asdivine Cross is a classic RPG with turn-based battles. The promotion runs over the next few days, but each game has different availability dates.

Gears of War: E-Day opens its multiplayer beta

The biggest attraction of this year’s Free Play Days is Gears of War: E-Day, whose open multiplayer beta began on 13 August at 12:00 PT. The tests will run until 17 August at 10:00 PT, so interested players have a few days to try the game. The beta is available on Xbox Series X|S and PC, and a Game Pass subscription is required on consoles for online play. Players can primarily test the new Horde Siege mode, a 12-player PvE experience. The developers have prepared larger maps and much bigger clashes than in the classic Horde variants. In addition, there’s a 4v4 Versus PvP mode, allowing teams to face off. During the beta players can complete special challenges that grant exclusive rewards. Player feedback will also help the developers fine-tune the game before its full release. Gears of War: E-Day debuts on 6 October, so the beta is a good chance to check out the changes before launch. For fans of the series this is particularly interesting, because the game covers events related to Emergence Day and the start of the war with the Locusts.

Sunderfolk and Asdivine Cross are also worth checking out

The second suggestion is Sunderfolk, a co-operative RPG designed for playing together. The title lets you experience an adventure in a group, and a smartphone can serve as a controller, rulebook and character sheet. A free mobile app is required to start playing, allowing each participant to use their own device. Importantly, only one copy of the game is needed for group play. As part of Free Play Days, players also get the content from Patch 2.0. The update adds, among other things, a new class, Vanguard, to the roster of playable characters. It also introduces two new scenarios: Sacred Sand and Arena Rumble. Sacred Sand focuses on helping Sacred Bug reclaim its home taken over by an ancient foe. Arena Rumble, meanwhile, lets you face off against rivals from across the Sunderlands. The third title is Asdivine Cross, a classic RPG using a turn-based combat system. Players take on the role of Harvey, a small-time crook who ends up in prison with a mysterious woman claiming to be a princess. Their escape kicks off an adventure that could determine the future of all Asdivine.

The latest Free Play Days offers three different options for Xbox Game Pass subscribers. The biggest draw is definitely the Gears of War: E-Day beta, especially thanks to its 12-player Horde Siege mode. Sunderfolk will be a good choice for those looking for a co-operative adventure with mates. Fans of classic Japanese RPGs can also check out Asdivine Cross. The Gears of War: E-Day beta runs until 17 August, while Sunderfolk and Asdivine Cross are available from 13 to 16 August. So it's a great time to try them without buying the full games and see which of these titles you like best.
