Xbox has kicked off another run of Free Play Days, during which you can try selected games for a few days at no extra charge. This time the list includes Borderlands 4, F1 25 2026 Season Edition and Surviving Mars: Relaunched. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and Essential subscribers also get access to CarX Drift Racing Online. Dustborn is available as a two-hour trial with a special discount. Importantly, EA Sports Madden NFL 27 can be tried without any Game Pass subscription.
Borderlands 4 and F1 25 Free for Game Pass Subscribers
The highlight of the current Free Play Days event is Borderlands 4, available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, and Essential subscribers. The game takes the series to a new planet, Kairos, ruled by a ruthless dictator known as the Timekeeper. Players can step into the shoes of one of four new Vault Hunters. Each character offers unique abilities, and extensive skill trees allow for gameplay customization. Borderlands 4 emphasizes dynamic combat, a vast array of weapons, and free-roaming exploration. As part of Free Play Days, players can also check out F1 25 2026 Season Edition. This package combines the base F1 25 game with content prepared for the 2026 season. The title allows players to complete the 2025 season and then launch a new career with the teams featured in the upcoming Formula 1 season. Another offering is Surviving Mars: Relaunched, where the player's task is to establish and expand a colony on the Red Planet. Players must build domes, manage resources, and ensure the colonists' survival. The Relaunched version includes features such as a new research tree and the "Services & Science" update. The promotion also includes CarX Drift Racing Online, featuring an extensive multiplayer mode, realistic driving physics, and over 100 cars. All four games are available to try from September 10 to 13.
Madden NFL 27 available to all Xbox users
This edition of Free Play Days also includes titles available outside the standard Game Pass subscription offer. Dustborn features a two-hour trial period running from September 10 to 13. The game presents an alternate version of America where the player takes on the role of Pax, an exile and con artist traveling across the country in search of a new life. The journey involves, among other things, a robot-driven bus; along the way, players can recruit crew members, develop relationships, and complete various tasks. However, the biggest surprise is EA Sports Madden NFL 27, which any Xbox user can try out between September 10 and 13. No Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, or Essential subscription is required for this title. Madden NFL 27 utilizes the new Persona Engine, giving players distinct personalities that influence their behavior and reactions in Franchise mode. The developers have also refined the game's physics, introducing—among other features—more precise wide receiver-versus-defender matchups and new mechanics for short-yardage plays. The game also includes improvements to defensive coverage and new pre-snap tactical settings. After the Free Play Days period ends, purchased games remain playable, and any achievements or Gamerscore earned during the trial stay on the user's account. However, Xbox notes that discount amounts and title availability may vary depending on the specific game and region. Games can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store; on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles, they can also be found in the Free Play Days section under the Subscriptions tab.
The current edition of Free Play Days will run from 10 to 13 September 2026. Subscribers to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and Essential can play Borderlands 4, F1 25 2026 Season Edition, Surviving Mars: Relaunched and CarX Drift Racing Online during this period. Dustborn offers a two-hour trial, and Madden NFL 27 is available free to all Xbox users. After the promotion ends, selected games can be bought at a discount and players keep any achievements and Gamerscore they earned.
