Discord and Microsoft have officially joined forces. From now on, a Discord Nitro subscription will include a special version of Xbox Game Pass, giving users access to over 50 games on PC and console as part of a single subscription.
Xbox Game Pass comes to Discord Nitro
The new offer will be available in the full version of Discord Nitro for $9.99 a month. Microsoft and Discord describe the new variant as a "starter edition" because the service has certain limitations compared to the classic Game Pass. The biggest downside is the lack of online multiplayer on consoles and a limit of 10 hours a month for cloud gaming. Nevertheless, the offer may prove to be very attractive for some PC gamers who are already using Discord daily and do not need the full version of Microsoft’s subscription.
Discord ramps up integration with the Xbox ecosystem
The new collaboration also includes additional integration of Game Pass with Discord functionalities. Users will be able to launch friends' games more quickly directly from the "Now Playing" status. If someone on the friends list is playing a title available on Game Pass, Discord will allow easy access to launching it through the Xbox app. As part of the update, Discord Nitro has also added new discounts for subscribers. Users will receive discounts of up to 30 percent on products from gaming brands such as Logitech, SteelSeries, and KontrolFreek. This feature is set to roll out gradually over the coming weeks.
Microsoft is increasingly developing its strategy of integrating Xbox Game Pass with other services. The integration with Discord Nitro may be particularly interesting for PC gamers who want to enter the Game Pass ecosystem at a lower cost without purchasing a full subscription.
