Sony is unlikely to offer discounts on PlayStation 5 consoles during this year's Days of Play 2026 sale. According to new leaks, promotions will mainly cover accessories, games, and PSVR 2, but the console itself may remain at full price despite recent price increases.
PS5 may miss Sony's biggest sale
According to the leaker billbil-kun, this year's Days of Play will run from May 27 to June 10. The problem is that currently, there is no indication of official price cuts for the PS5, PS5 Digital Edition, or PlayStation 5 Pro. For many gamers, this may be particularly disappointing following the recent price hikes for consoles. The standard PS5 currently costs around 650 euros, while the PS5 Pro is as much as 900 euros.
Leaked information suggests that promotions will include, among other things, DualSense controllers, which are expected to be discounted by around 20 euros. The DualSense Edge and PlayStation VR2 are also likely to be cheaper, with prices potentially dropping by as much as 100 euros. Discounts are also expected on selected games, including Ghost of Yōtei. The lack of promotions on the PS5 may be related to the rising costs of components, especially RAM and NAND. According to the report, component prices are sharply increasing due to enormous demand associated with the development of artificial intelligence and AI servers. Therefore, Sony may be trying to maintain high margins instead of aggressively lowering hardware prices.
Pressure to buy PS5 is increasing
The situation is problematic because more and more big releases are dropping support for PS4. The new Call of Duty is already set to skip the older generation of consoles, which for many players means they have to switch to PS5 quicker than they planned.
Days of Play 2026 will likely not bring any discounts on PS5. Sony is expected to focus mainly on discounts for accessories, PSVR 2, and selected games, despite the growing pressure to purchase the new generation of consoles.
