Blood Message is one of the new titles that has attracted attention for its visuals since the first footage. The developers at 24 Entertainment have revealed more details about the technologies used. They also confirmed the game is already being tested on PlayStation 5 Pro. The developers are making full use of Unreal Engine 5 and their own proprietary solutions to enhance the world's realism. The effects should be visible both during combat and exploration.
Unreal Engine 5 powers the game's realistic world
The developers decided to use Unreal Engine 5 after comparing it with other engines, including Unity. They felt only Epic Games' solution offered the required level of visual quality and cinematic presentation. Blood Message uses Lumen technology for dynamic global illumination and Nanite, which allows very detailed models to be displayed without noticeable changes in detail levels. The developers also use Virtual Shadow Maps for more accurate shadows. A strong emphasis has been placed on realistic environmental physics. Materials such as brick, leather, fabrics and parchment were scanned from real-world objects and react to changing lighting conditions. The game will also feature destructible environmental elements, airborne dust and dynamic weather effects. The team has prepared advanced simulations of fluids, snow and sand. One of the showcased scenes shows a rat running through water, creating realistic waves and splashes. All these elements are intended to increase immersion during gameplay. The studio says the game world will respond to player actions more naturally.
PS5 Pro already being tested, but the developers haven't made all the decisions yet
24 Entertainment also confirmed that it has begun testing the game on PlayStation 5 Pro. The studio is experimenting with using PSSR technology for image upscaling and with the ray tracing capabilities offered by Sony's more powerful console. The developers note, however, that the final scope of these features has not yet been decided. At the same time, they're analysing the use of full path tracing in the PC version. For now it's unclear whether this technology will be applied across the whole game or only in selected sections. Blood Message is being developed for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S consoles. A recently shown 18-minute gameplay segment indicates the project is already at an advanced stage of development. If the final version maintains the current level of visuals, it could be one of the most impressive games made with Unreal Engine 5.
Blood Message looks set to be a tech showcase for Unreal Engine 5. The developers have confirmed tests on PlayStation 5 Pro and the use of the latest graphics solutions, which are intended to deliver exceptionally realistic visuals and game world physics.
