OLED monitors are increasingly making their mark on the gaming market, however, until now, most models have been aimed at users looking for large screens and high resolutions. ASUS has decided to take a completely different direction. At the Computex 2026 trade show, the company showcased the first 25-inch OLED monitor specifically designed for fans of competitive online gaming. The manufacturer has focused primarily on extremely high refresh rates and lightning-fast response times. As a result, the new model is set to compete with TN monitors, which have dominated the professional e-sports scene for years.
ASUS prioritises speed over high resolution
The new ROG Strix XG259QWPG Ace is equipped with a 24.5-inch Tandem WOLED panel. However, the most eye-catching feature is the refresh rate, which reaches up to 540 Hz. This is a figure that just a few years ago seemed unrealistic even for monitors designed for professional gamers. ASUS has paired this with a response time of just 0.02 ms, which is one of the greatest advantages of OLED technology. The manufacturer emphasises that the monitor was developed in collaboration with organisers of the biggest e-sport tournaments, including Blast and PGL. The equipment aims to provide maximum fluidity during gameplay in dynamic online games. However, the screen only offers a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels. For some users, this may be disappointing, especially in times of increasing popularity of 1440p and 4K monitors. However, ASUS believes that in e-sports, speed and minimisation of latency are paramount. This is why the company chose to strike a compromise between image quality and performance. Competition-focused gamers are likely to accept such a limitation if it means they receive maximally smooth gameplay. Especially since the monitor is set to offer significantly better image quality than the TN panels currently used by many competitors.
Tandem WOLED is set to improve brightness and lifespan
The new ASUS monitor uses the latest generation of Tandem WOLED panels. According to the manufacturer, the technology provides around 15 percent higher peak brightness compared to earlier models. The company also boasts a 25 percent increase in colour volume, which should result in a more vibrant image. Equally important is the extended lifespan of the panel. ASUS claims that the implemented solutions can increase the durability of the panel by as much as 60 percent compared to previous generations of OLED. The device also features a new power supply system based on GaNFET technology. As a result, it has managed to reduce the amount of generated heat and lower the operating temperature of the monitor. The manufacturer reports a reduction in temperature at the hottest points of the design by as much as 35 percent. This is expected to positively impact not only the durability of the panel but also the stability during long gaming sessions. ASUS has yet to reveal the price of the new model, which could be crucial for its success. If the manufacturer prices the device appropriately, the monitor has the potential to become a very popular choice among esports players, especially since there are currently virtually no direct competitors offering similar specifications in such a compact format.
