ASUS's new QD-OLED hits 1,300 nits. It has 320 Hz and a Penta Tandem panel.

ASUS quietly expanded its OLED monitor lineup with the ROG Strix OLED XG27ACDMSR. At first glance it looks like another 27-inch QHD gaming screen, but the most important changes are in the panel itself. The manufacturer uses a newer QD-OLED design here, which is said to be noticeably brighter than its predecessor.

Specifications of the XG27ACDMSR

The ROG Strix OLED XG27ACDMSR features a 26.5-inch QD-OLED panel with a resolution of 2560 × 1440 pixels. The maximum refresh rate is 320 Hz, and the rated response time is 0.03 ms GtG. So it's primarily aimed at gamers, although the image-related specs are equally interesting.

As Notebookcheck reports, the new model uses EL 3.0 materials and a five-layer construction referred to as Penta Tandem. Compared with the earlier XG27ACDMS, SDR brightness has risen from about 250 to 300 nits, while peak HDR brightness is said to reach 1,300 nits. The monitor has also received VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification.

Less sensitive QD-OLED

Another change is the BlackShield layer. According to ASUS, it can improve perceived black levels in a bright room by up to 40% while also increasing the screen surface's resistance to scratches by 2.5 times. That's particularly important for QD-OLEDs, whose blacks can look worse under strong ambient lighting than in a dark room. The maker has also kept the OLED Care Pro system and the Neo Proximity Sensor presence sensor, which can turn the screen off when you step away from your desk.

So far ASUS has not announced a price or a specific release date. The new model is already listed on the manufacturer's official website, so its market debut should be only a matter of time. But the most interesting thing is something else: the next generation of QD-OLEDs is starting to address one of their biggest weaknesses.
