Apple has unveiled the Apple Watch Ultra 4, the new generation of its most rugged watch made for sport and demanding activities. The model features the S11 chip and a new Health Monitoring system that gathers heart rate and heart rate variability data much more frequently. One of the most important new additions is the Readiness feature, which analyses sleep, activity and training load to assess how the body is likely to cope on a given day. Apple has also improved battery life, which can reach up to 50 hours in standard use. The Apple Watch Ultra 4 is priced from 3799 zł in Poland and will be in stores on 18 September.
New health monitoring system and Readiness feature
The Apple Watch Ultra 4 has a redesigned optical and electrical sensor system that allows more frequent collection of body data. Larger, more energy-efficient green LEDs enable heart rate measurements every five seconds throughout the day. Apple says continuous measurements make it possible to assess a user’s fitness more accurately and improve the Exercise and Move activity rings. Heart rate can also be checked directly from the watch face thanks to a new complication. Heart rate variability, or HRV, is measured much more often too. The Apple Watch Ultra 4 can collect HRV data up to 24 times more frequently than before, and the results are available in a new Heart Rate app section. The maker separates recovery-related HRV from the overall HRV metric to make the data easier to interpret. The new vital metrics view lets you compare information collected during the day and at night and spot potential changes in the body. Based on this data, the watch also introduces a Readiness feature. The system analyses recent activity, training load, vital metrics and sleep score, then gives a rating from 0 to 10. The score is accompanied by one of four recommendations: Recovery, Conserve Energy, Ready or Go All Out. The rating can change during the day as new information appears, for example after an intense workout. Apple developed the algorithm using, among other things, data from the Apple Heart and Movement Study and in collaboration with sports physiologists and doctors.
Battery, S11 and new watchOS 27 features
The Apple Watch Ultra 4 can run for up to 50 hours on a single charge, while Low Power mode increases runtime to 84 hours. The maker has also improved charging speed, so 15 minutes on the charger can provide up to 18 hours of additional use. For outdoor workouts the watch can run for up to 25 hours with full GPS fixes and heart-rate measurements. That’s 25 percent longer than the previous generation. A special Maximum Extended Workout mode lets you record runs, walks and hikes for up to 45 hours. Apple says that is enough time to complete a 160-kilometre race while recording GPS data every second. The device is powered by the new S11 chip, which also supports new sound-recognition features. The Apple Watch Ultra 4 can detect sounds such as sirens, alarms, doorbells and a crying baby, and notify the wearer. The feature was developed in part with deaf and hard-of-hearing people in mind. The watch also gains integration with Shazam, allowing quick music recognition directly from the wrist. Apple emphasises that audio processing is handled by a hardware-isolated Secure Enclave coprocessor, and recordings are not stored. watchOS 27 also brings new gestures, widget suggestions and changes to the Smart Stack. Users can, for example, tap thumb and forefinger to open a widget, and take advantage of new context-dependent suggestions. The system also supports Siri AI using Apple Intelligence, and the Workout Buddy feature can operate on the watch without an iPhone.
Apple Watch Ultra 4 focuses primarily on more accurate health monitoring, longer battery life and features useful during workouts. The biggest addition is the Readiness function, which uses collected data to help assess the user's capabilities on any given day. The watch also offers up to 50 hours of standard use and even 45 hours of recording long activities in Maximum Extended Training mode. The Apple Watch Ultra 4 costs from 3,799 zł in Poland, and sales begin on 18 September 2026.
