Apple is expanding its apps on Android, adding features previously familiar to iPhone users. The latest updates have rolled out to Apple TV and Apple Music, bringing a few practical improvements. The most notable addition is widgets, which let you launch movies, TV shows and music more quickly without opening the app. Apple Music has also gained a new option to share songs and playlists via WhatsApp. Although the changes aren't revolutionary, they can significantly improve the everyday convenience of using Apple's services on Android phones. The updates are already being rolled out to users worldwide.
Apple TV on Android gets new widgets
Version 2.5 of the Apple TV app adds three new widgets for the device home screen. They provide quick access to the "Continue Watching" section without needing to open the app. The smallest widget shows a single movie or episode ready to resume. The medium option displays two items at once. The largest widget offers an expanded preview with larger artwork for the first item and a scrollable list of following titles. Tapping an item starts playback immediately. The widgets cannot be resized and match the options previously available on iOS. The Apple TV 2.5 update is being rolled out gradually via Google Play.
Apple Music makes it easier to access music and share via WhatsApp
At the same time, Apple has started rolling out version 6.5 of the Apple Music app for Android. The update introduces two new widgets that expand home screen personalisation options. The Pins widget lets you instantly open pinned albums, playlists or artists. Meanwhile, Live Radio lets you quickly launch online radio stations without navigating to the relevant tab in the app. These join existing widgets such as Now Playing, Recently Played, Recommendations and Top Charts. Apple has also added the ability to share songs, albums, playlists and song lyrics directly to WhatsApp. This lets users share music with friends more quickly. The company did not announce any other major changes in this release.
New updates to Apple TV and Apple Music show that Apple continues to develop its services on Android devices. Widgets make it easier to access favourite content, and integration with WhatsApp makes sharing music much more convenient. While these are mostly quality-of-life improvements, they can positively affect everyday use of both apps.
