Apple is preparing one of the biggest changes to Siri in many years. According to new leaks, the voice assistant is set for a massive overhaul with iOS 27, but despite delays, Apple is reportedly still planning to label the new Siri as a beta feature.
Apple is reportedly rebuilding Siri from the ground up
According to information from Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, Apple is working on a more advanced version of Siri that resembles modern AI chatbots. The assistant is expected to handle conversations better, remember context, and offer deeper integration with apps and the iPhone system. Leaks also mention a new interface resembling a messaging app and integration with Dynamic Island. Apple is also said to be considering a separate Siri app that functions more like contemporary AI platforms such as OpenAI or Google Gemini.
Siri may still operate as a beta feature
The most interesting thing is that internal versions of iOS 27 reportedly still label the new Siri as "beta". Users are even expected to receive the option to exit the Siri beta program directly in the system settings. Apple has previously employed similar solutions. The original Siri debuted as a beta following its launch in 2011, and the label was only removed two years later. This time, the company may want to protect itself against issues related to AI bugs, hallucinations, and underdeveloped features.
Apple is seriously late in the AI race
The revamped Siri was originally set to launch much earlier as part of Apple Intelligence's strategy. However, according to reports, the project has faced delays of up to two years. During this time, competitors like ChatGPT and Gemini have significantly developed their conversational capabilities and integrations with everyday services. As a result, more and more users view Siri as clearly outdated compared to modern AI assistants.
However, Apple still wants to strongly emphasise privacy and more controlled implementation of artificial intelligence features. Leaks have emerged regarding additional privacy safeguards and options for automatically deleting Siri conversation history.
