Apple officially unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone. The device offers a 7.6-inch display when unfolded, and when closed uses an external 5.4-inch display. The manufacturer has equipped it with, among other things, the A20 Pro chip, a specialised vapour chamber and a dual-battery system. The foldable design also opens up new possibilities for using the cameras and working with apps. The iPhone Duo will go on sale on 23 October, and its price in Poland starts at 9,999 zł.
iPhone Duo has two displays and a completely new design
The biggest innovation in the iPhone Duo is, of course, the foldable design, which lets you use the device in two entirely different forms. When closed, the phone has a 5.4-inch external Super Retina XDR display, equivalent to 90 percent of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro. When unfolded, users get an internal 7.6-inch display, 50 percent larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max display. Apple has applied a nanostructured finish to reduce light reflections and glare. The company also says this helps reduce the visibility of the crease. Both displays share the same aspect ratio, so apps and content keep a consistent look when you change how you use the device. The displays support ProMotion, and their peak outdoor brightness reaches 3,000 nits. The internal FaceTime camera is hidden under the display and doesn't take up any extra space on its surface. Apple has also developed a special hinge made up of more than 100 components, designed to provide smooth opening and closing. The hinge structure supports the centre of the display and keeps it flat when unfolded. Built-in magnets ensure both halves of the device close securely. The chassis is made from Grade 5 titanium and finished to a mirror polish. Apple has also used Ceramic Shield and Ceramic Shield 2, with the front layer said to be three times more scratch-resistant than the previous generation.
Cameras, iOS 27 and A20 Pro performance
The iPhone Duo gets a 48 MP Fusion main camera that lets you shoot at the full 48 MP resolution or use the default 24 MP mode. The camera uses a large sensor, a fast aperture and optical image stabilisation with automatic sensor-shift stabilisation to improve low-light results. It's paired with a 48 MP Fusion ultrawide that can do macro shots and offers a 2x optical-quality zoom. The front Center Stage camera can automatically capture photos and video in different orientations without having to rotate the phone. The folding design also lets you use the external display as a preview when shooting with the rear cameras. Duo Preview lets the people being photographed check the composition before the shot is taken. Apple also introduced an Intelligent Shutter that, thanks to on-device AI models, can automatically take a photo when it detects the right pose in front of the camera. The iPhone Duo can record 4K Dolby Vision video at 120 fps, and cinematic effects can be added to already recorded clips at up to 60 fps. Performance is handled by the A20 Pro, built on a 2 nm process, with a 6-core CPU and a 7-core GPU. Apple says the CPU is up to 20 percent faster than the A19 Pro, the GPU up to 40 percent faster, and the dual 16-core Neural Engine delivers twice the compute for AI tasks. The chip is coupled with a specially designed vapour chamber, allowing the iPhone Duo to sustain up to 35 percent higher performance than the iPhone 17 Pro. The large display also takes advantage of iOS 27 features, including Split View for running two apps side by side, and two windows of the same app. The system has been redesigned for the foldable form factor, with controls and navigation moved to the side to leave more room for the main content.
The iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable smartphone and also one of the most unusual models in the company’s lineup this year. The device pairs a 7.6-inch internal display with a 5.4-inch external screen, the A20 Pro chip and an extensive camera system. In Poland the smartphone will start at 9,999 zł, and customers can begin pre-ordering on 16 October. Regular sales of the iPhone Duo will start on 23 October 2026.
