YouTube is testing a new "custom feed." The platform wants to change the way videos are discovered.

YouTube apparently wants to further change the way content is discovered on its platform. The company has begun implementing a new feature called Custom Feed, which allows users to generate their own channels of recommended videos based on descriptions they input. Instead of just searching for specific materials, the platform aims to offer more dynamic and constantly refreshed sets of content. The new option will appear alongside the classic search bar on the homepage. Users will be able to create their own "vibes" and customize them according to specific interests. This is another step by YouTube towards an even more algorithmic and personalized experience.

YouTube will allow users to create their own recommended video channels

YouTube is adding a special Custom Feed button visible next to the search bar. When opened, users can enter their own description of the materials they are interested in or use the ready-made suggestions provided by the platform. Based on this, YouTube will create a special feed full of tailored videos. Importantly, the channel will be continuously refreshed and updated with new materials matching the chosen theme. The platform aims to move away from the classic model of searching for individual videos and focus more on the continuous discovery of new content. Ready-made feeds can also be saved as special bookmarks visible at the top of the homepage.

YouTube's algorithms are set to further personalize content

A new feature shows that YouTube is increasingly focusing on personalizing the entire user experience. The feed can be edited at any time and additional context can be added if the displayed videos do not meet expectations. The platform clearly aims to create a more flexible recommendation system that resembles a conversation with AI rather than simple searching. The feature will only work for logged-in users with an active watch history. It is the data regarding previously viewed content that is intended to help the algorithm match new content even more accurately. Currently, the Custom Feed is reaching users in the USA on both smartphones and computers.

YouTube is experimenting with a new way to discover content and wants to transform classic searching into more personalized recommendation channels. Custom Feed could be another big step for the platform towards algorithmic viewing tailored to the specific interests of the user.
