YouTube is introducing a new feature based on artificial intelligence that allows Premium users to create playlists using simple text or voice commands. To use it, just go to the Library tab, click New, and select the AI playlist option. Then the user provides a phrase describing the genre, and the system automatically compiles a curated list of songs. The feature aims to accelerate music discovery and better match playlists to mood and occasion.
AI is becoming increasingly important in YouTube's strategy
As reported by TechCrunch, YouTube has been experimenting with the use of artificial intelligence for creating playlists for quite some time. As early as July 2024, a feature for generating personalized radio stations based on user recommendations was being tested in the USA. Similar solutions have also been implemented by competitors such as Spotify, Amazon Music, and Deezer, which shows that AI is becoming the standard in streaming services.
At the same time, YouTube is continually enhancing the appeal of its Premium plan. Recently, the platform began restricting access to song lyrics in the YouTube Music app for some free users, stating that this is a test being conducted on a small group of ad-supported accounts. The entire strategy aligns with the growing importance of subscriptions for Google, which recently announced that Google One and YouTube Premium now have a total of 325 million paying users.
