Samsung plans to significantly increase its purchases of LCD panels from Chinese manufacturer BOE. According to reports in the Korean media, the companies have agreed on deliveries of up to 9 million panels in 2028. That's more than four times as many as in 2025 and another sign of shifts in the TV market.
Samsung and BOE resume cooperation
According to PRAD, citing Korean ZDNet, Samsung Electronics is set to order 6 to 7 million LCD panels from BOE in 2027 and 8 to 9 million in 2028. By comparison, Omdia data show that the Chinese company supplied Samsung with about 2.2 million panels in 2025, and this year’s orders are expected to reach 4.4 million.
Cooperation between the two manufacturers had previously been limited due to a patent dispute between BOE and Samsung Display that lasted more than three years. The conflict ended with an agreement in November 2025, clearing the way for renewed increases in supply.
Samsung wants to reduce its dependence on TCL
Currently one of Samsung's largest suppliers of LCD panels is CSOT, owned by TCL. Increasing orders from BOE would allow the Korean manufacturer to reduce reliance on a single supplier and strengthen its position when negotiating prices.
This is especially important now that Chinese LCD panel makers have begun raising their prices. Greater competition among suppliers could help Samsung control TV production costs, although it would not automatically result in lower retail prices.
So far, reports about planned orders for 2027–2028 have not been officially confirmed by either company.
