Valve Still Plans to Release Steam Machine
Valve has once again confirmed that its new console-computer Steam Machine will hit the market in 2026. However, recent speculation has suggested a possible delay in the device's release, mainly due to issues in the global supply chain of components. According to Valve representatives, the company's plans have not changed, and the device is still set to debut next year. Doubts arose after a post on the company's official blog, in which Valve used the wording "we hope to ship in 2026." For some industry observers, this indicated the possibility of postponing the release. However, Valve spokeswoman Kaci Aitchison Boyle explained to the media that nothing has changed and the project is still being developed as planned.
RAM Memory Issues in the Technology Industry
One of the factors that may affect equipment availability is the global shortage of RAM memory. In recent months, a large portion of production has been directed to data centers supporting artificial intelligence, which limits the availability of components for consumer hardware manufacturers. Supply issues with memory have already impacted the availability of other devices from the company, such as the Steam Deck OLED.
From the information revealed so far, the new Steam Machine will resemble a compact gaming computer designed for the living room. The hardware is expected to offer, among other things:
16 GB of DDR5 memory
8 GB of GDDR6 graphics memory
an operating system based on SteamOS
full integration with the Steam platform
The device is expected to enable running PC games in a manner similar to traditional consoles.
New Devices in the Valve Ecosystem
Valve plans to launch not only the Steam Machine itself. In preparation is also a new VR device called Steam Frame and a controller designed to work with this hardware. The company announces that more details regarding the launch, price, and availability will be released in the coming months.
Although there have been speculations about a possible delay, Valve assures that the Steam Machine is still set to debut in 2026. However, issues with RAM availability may impact the exact release date and initial availability of the device.
