TCL is making a stronger push into the OLED monitor market and has just unveiled two new models aimed primarily at demanding gamers. The 32X3B and 27X3B are set to be the second generation of OLED monitors from the Chinese maker, which until now has been mainly associated with Mini LED TVs. The new designs stand out with a very slim profile and high brightness of up to 1500 nits. The larger model also offers 4K at 240 Hz, and when the resolution is lowered it can reach up to 480 Hz. TCL also included modern ports, such as HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1. So far the monitors have debuted in China, but the company plans to bring them to Western markets as well.
TCL 32X3B and 27X3B emphasize high brightness
TCL 32X3B and 27X3B retain the distinctive, very slim design known from the first-generation devices. The appearance of the new monitors is one of their greatest assets, as the construction feels exceptionally modern and minimalist. The 32X3B model is equipped with a 32-inch OLED panel with 4K resolution. The monitor can run at a refresh rate of 240 Hz at 4K, which is especially appealing to owners of powerful PCs. When dropping to 1080p, the refresh rate can increase up to 480 Hz. Compared with the previous 32X3A, TCL increased the peak brightness from 1300 to 1500 nits. The manufacturer also applied an improved anti-reflective coating to reduce light reflections. This should make the image easier to see even in brighter rooms. The 27X3B is slightly smaller and offers 1440p resolution and up to 280 Hz refresh rate. This model also reaches a peak brightness of 1500 nits and has a response time of just 0.03 ms. TCL also claims support for 10-bit color and factory calibration with a Delta E value below 1. That means the monitor could appeal not only to gamers but also to people working in graphics and content editing.
OLED from TCL still without RGB panel
Despite very ambitious specs, TCL's new monitors do not use the company's developed printed RGB OLED technology. The manufacturer has used a fourth-generation WOLED panel here, most likely from LG Display. This means TCL is still using a competitor's technology rather than its own CSOT solution. Both monitors are equipped with HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1, so there should be no problem using their full potential in modern PCs. TCL also implemented B&O audio technology, which is meant to improve the devices' sound capabilities. In the case of the 27X3B there is also a Black Frame Insertion mode, which can improve motion clarity in certain applications. The manufacturer therefore positions both models primarily for users who expect very fast, high-quality visuals. The 32X3B is priced in China at 6,499 yuan, about $950. The smaller 27X3B costs 3,699 yuan, about $550. At this time TCL has not yet provided official prices or a precise release date for Western markets. If the specs are maintained, the 32X3B and 27X3B could be interesting competition for current OLED monitors from more experienced manufacturers.
TCL is showing it wants to compete more aggressively in the OLED monitor market. The 32X3B offers 4K, 240 Hz and even 480 Hz at a lower resolution, while the 27X3B focuses on 1440p and 280 Hz. Both models offer brightness up to 1500 nits, very fast response times, and modern HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1 connectors. For now, however, we'll have to wait for their official launch and European pricing.
