Spotify announced the introduction of special badges for verified podcasts. The new badges are meant to help users distinguish genuine creators from content generated by AI or impersonating popular hosts.
Spotify Responds to the Voice Cloning Problem by AI
A new label will appear in the form of a light green verification mark visible next to podcasts in the search engine and on program pages. Spotify admits that the development of artificial intelligence has significantly facilitated the creation of podcasts, but at the same time led to an increase in the number of fake content using cloned voices of well-known creators. The platform announces that podcasts using AI to impersonate others without consent will be removed from the service. Spotify will gradually award the labels. To receive a badge, a podcast must meet several requirements, including having an active and authentic audience and not violating the platform's rules. The company also promises additional security measures against artificial inflation of listens by bots.
Spotify emphasizes that podcasting is primarily based on the listener's relationship with the host. The emergence of realistic voice clones generated by AI can strongly impact both creators and consumers, who are increasingly having trouble distinguishing real materials from fake ones. Similar actions are also being taken by other technology companies, including Google and OpenAI, which are developing systems for verifying AI-generated content.
Spotify introduces labels for verified podcasts to fight impersonation of creators using AI. The platform also announces the removal of podcasts that use unauthorized voice cloning.
