Not the information that owners of the new Nintendo console were expecting. Borderlands 4, which was supposed to be one of the bigger launch hits for the Switch 2, is experiencing a delay literally right before its release.
ChooseTV needs more time
ChooseTV Software has released an official statement admitting that the game requires additional work:
“Greetings, Vault Hunters – we need to share the information that the release of Borderlands 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 is being delayed. This was not an easy decision, but we are committed to providing our fans with the best experience possible, and the game needs additional time for development and polishing. We hope to better align this release with the addition of cross saves, which we are working on and know is very important.”
It's hard to say there is great surprise – the game has already faced performance issues on other platforms, and looter-shooters of this type do not forgive technical shortcomings.
Pre-orders canceled, returns from Nintendo
The studio did not provide a new release date, and Nintendo is initiating the standard return procedure. All digital pre-orders will be canceled – if players do not begin the process themselves, the system will do it automatically on Friday, September 26.
When will we play?
At this moment, it's unclear when Borderlands 4 will land on the Switch 2. Gearbox suggests that the delay is also meant to allow for the implementation of cross-save, which could be crucial for fans of the series.
Let's remember that the game was released on September 12, 2025, on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 – however, reviews there were mixed, mainly due to technical shortcomings.
