Samsung has officially confirmed the withdrawal of sales of televisions and most RTV and household appliances from China. This is a huge change for the market, as the company leaves the largest television market in the world and makes way for local manufacturers such as TCL, Hisense, and Skyworth.
Samsung stops selling TVs and electronics in China
Samsung's decision affects not only TVs but also monitors, projectors, audio equipment, refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, and other household devices. The company explains the move as a response to the "rapidly changing market environment" and challenges in continuing to compete with Chinese brands. Just a few years ago, Samsung was one of the major TV manufacturers in China, offering a full range of models from OLEDs and Neo QLEDs to lifestyle TVs like The Frame. However, the situation has changed markedly with the aggressive development of local manufacturers who are offering increasingly better specifications at much lower prices.
Chinese brands have practically taken over their own market
According to AVC data, Samsung's share of the Chinese television market has fallen to just about 3.6 percent. Meanwhile, local manufacturers now control over 94 percent of the entire market. TCL and Hisense are growing particularly strongly, increasingly competing on a global scale and regularly introducing new Mini LED and RGB LED technologies. Samsung's withdrawal could further strengthen the position of Chinese giants. TCL had already temporarily surpassed Samsung in terms of the number of televisions sold worldwide, and now it may come even closer to the position of global leader. This is also a clear warning signal for other foreign brands trying to maintain a foothold in the very challenging Chinese electronics market.
Samsung officially ends the sale of televisions and most RTV and household appliances in China. The company is losing the battle against local manufacturers who have practically dominated the largest television market in the world.
