Samsung officially introduces its first 6K monitor, the Samsung G80HS, which is expected to meet the growing demands of both gamers and professionals. The device is priced at around 1500 euros and will soon be available for sale in Europe, and later in other regions. The new screen is 32 inches and targets the premium segment, offering not only a very high resolution but also great flexibility in applications. This is another step in the development of the monitor market, where 6K is slowly starting to move beyond a niche.
6K Mode and 330 Hz in One Device
The biggest curiosity is the so-called dual-mode, which allows the user to choose between maximum image quality and extreme smoothness. At full resolution of 6144 × 3456, the monitor offers a refresh rate of up to 165 Hz, which is impressive for 6K. Alternatively, you can switch to a lower 3K resolution, where the frequency increases to as much as 330 Hz, making it appealing for speed and responsiveness-focused gamers. The monitor supports image synchronization technologies such as FreeSync and G-Sync, which further enhances gaming fluidity. As a result, the device can serve a dual purpose as both a tool for graphic or coding work and an advanced gaming monitor.
There are compromises, it’s still IPS
Despite its impressive specs, the monitor is not without limitations. The IPS panel, while offering good color reproduction and wide viewing angles, does not match OLED screens in terms of contrast or HDR quality. Although the device supports HDR10+, the lack of local dimming means that the HDR effect will be limited. Therefore, it is not equipment for those looking for the absolute best image quality, but rather a compromise between resolution, smoothness, and functionality.
Samsung G80HS shows that 6K is starting to enter the more mainstream segment, combining high resolution with features for gamers. It's an interesting proposition for those who want one monitor for multiple uses.
