Sony today launched the Live TV on PS5 service, which lets PlayStation 5 owners watch ad-supported TV for free. At launch the feature is available to players in the United States. The service offers more than 100 live channels and additional on-demand content. The lineup includes movies, TV series, anime, sports, news and content from online creators. Sony says it wants to make it easier for users to discover free entertainment directly from their console.

Over 100 channels on PlayStation 5

Then select the Live TV on PS5 icon and sign in with a PlayStation account. Sony prepared a wide selection of programming across categories for the launch. Movie lovers get channels such as MovieSphere by Lionsgate, 50 Cent Action, FilmRise Free Movies, Sony One Horror Hits and Cinevault. Live TV on PS5 also includes sports channels related to FOX Sports, NASCAR, NBC Sports Now and UFC. The sports offering covers disciplines such as MMA, football, hockey, motorsports, golf, boxing and soccer.

News, Weather and Creator Content Also Offered

Live TV on PS5 also offers news and weather channels, allowing the console to serve as an additional multimedia center. Available sources include NBC News Now, Fox Weather, and LiveNOW from FOX. Sony has also created a category dedicated to online creators and specialized shows. Users will find Hot Ones, The Ringer from Spotify, and Futcrunch, among others. The offering also includes content related to comedy, extreme sports, gaming, and esports. Additional content includes documentaries, podcasts, and other themed programs. Sony emphasizes that the service's content will be refreshed regularly. Over time, new channels and additional content are expected to be added. The company also wants to expand Live TV on PS5 beyond the current U.S. market. Sony is already working on making the service available in Canada and does not rule out interest in other regions. So far, however, no specific timetable has been given for expanding availability outside the U.S.
