July brought several big surprises to the PlayStation Store, with older releases taking center stage. Both in the United States and Canada and in Europe, the most downloaded game on PS5 and PS4 turned out to be Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Also ranking high were titles such as EA Sports College Football 27, EA Sports FC 26, and Minecraft. For PS VR2, I Am Cat took first place in both regions, beating out Synapse and Beat Saber, among others. Sony published the full lists showing which PlayStation titles users reached for most in July.
Call of Duty dominated the PS5 and PS4 charts
The biggest winner of the July chart is undoubtedly Call of Duty: Black Ops II, which took first place on both PS5 and PS4 in both regions analyzed. Just behind it on PS5 was Call of Duty: Black Ops, showing that players still like returning to older entries in the popular series. In the United States and Canada, third place went to EA Sports College Football 27, while in Europe the podium was rounded out by Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. The PS5 top ten also included EA Sports FC 26, Palworld, Minecraft, Halo: Campaign Evolved, NBA 2K26, and Escape the Backrooms. In Europe, 007 First Light and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt also placed highly, and both regions featured hits such as UFC 6 and Grand Theft Auto V. On PS4 the situation looked similar, as Black Ops II also took the top spot there, with the front ranks including, among others, Black Ops III, Batman: Arkham Knight, Red Dead Redemption 2, and EA Sports FC 26.
I Am Cat tops PS VR2 charts, and Roblox wins among free games
In the PS VR2 ranking, I Am Cat took first place in both regions. The title beat Synapse and Beat Saber in North America, while in Europe Job Simulator was second and Creed: Rise to Glory - Championship Edition placed third. Other popular VR games included Metro Awakening, Alien: Rogue Incursion VR, Horizon Call of the Mountain, and Arizona Sunshine VR Remake. The ranking of free games on PS5 and PS4 is also interesting. In the United States and Canada, Roblox was the most downloaded, followed by Fortnite, Marvel Rivals, Rocket League, and Call of Duty: Warzone. In Europe, Fortnite took first place, with Roblox in second. Rocket League, eFootball, Warzone, Fall Guys, and Valorant also ranked highly. July's results therefore show that while players are eager to try new releases, nostalgia for Call of Duty classics still exerts a huge pull.
