For the past few months, some users have felt that Nvidia has completely given up on developing its Shield TV device. There have been no new models, the system is stuck on Android 11, and competing devices are appearing like mushrooms after rain. Meanwhile, the manufacturer – somewhat quietly – continues a series of smaller updates. And we've just received another one.
The update Shield Experience 9.2.2 is rolling out to devices now, and while it doesn't bring any spectacular changes, it addresses several real issues that have been bothering users. The most important fix? Audio bug fixes in Disney+, which have been problematic for some time.
In practice, version 9.2.2 replaces the update 9.2.1 from May 2025, which added, among other things, support for GeForce Now in 1080p at 120 fps, as well as several other improvements. However, there is still no news regarding a new Shield model. This is somewhat unusual, as Nintendo has already released the Switch 2 – based on the same hardware platform that Shield TV has been using for years. In other words – the hardware is aging, but at least updates are still alive.

Improvements
Shield TV is now more accessible for people with disabilities – visual improvements and better compatibility with assistive technologies.
Added a beep notification for pairing the remote and controller – both during initial setup and in settings.
New feature Bounce Keys.
Implementation of Accessibility Key Repeat.
Added settings for accessibility timeout.
Support for TalkBack TTS in 23 European languages.
Fixed Bugs
Issue with disappearing sound in Disney+.
Nvidia Shield is not receiving new system features, it is not upgrading to a newer Android version, and it still operates on a very old SoC – but it is still being updated, which in itself is already a rarity in the world of Android TV boxes. Shield Experience 9.2.2 is a typical "maintenance update," but if you use Disney+ – you will notice the difference immediately.
