NVIDIA offers a solution in the form of GeForce NOW, which offloads demanding computations to the cloud. That means even a less powerful laptop, Chromebook, or smartphone can be used to play demanding titles. The service also lets you use your existing game library without having to buy the games again.
Cloud gaming instead of replacing your computer
GeForce NOW allows you to run demanding games on hardware that would normally struggle to handle them. All the processing power is on NVIDIA's servers, and a ready-made video stream of the game is sent to the user. That means you don't need a powerful CPU or a high-end GPU to use high graphics settings. The service works on PCs, Chromebooks, smartphones, tablets, and TVs. There's also an app made for the Steam Deck. NVIDIA notes that GeForce NOW can be an attractive option for people using older devices. Supported platforms include Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox Game Pass for PC, Battle.net, and Ubisoft Connect. Users don't have to repurchase a game they already own on one of the supported services. Another advantage is not having to download massive updates to your local drive. Games run in the cloud, so even an update that takes dozens of gigabytes doesn't have to block you from starting to play. GeForce NOW can therefore extend the life of older hardware, since demanding computations don't strain its components the way they do with traditional gaming.
Different quality tiers and even 5K at 120 FPS
GeForce NOW offers several access tiers, letting users tailor the service to their needs. The free tier allows play at 1080p at up to 60 FPS, though individual sessions are time-limited. The higher Performance plan offers gameplay up to 1440p at 60 FPS and support for RTX. The most advanced Ultimate tier uses servers equipped with GeForce RTX 5080 GPUs. In this case users can get sessions of up to 8 hours. For supported games, the service also enables streaming at 5K at 120 FPS. Technologies such as DLSS 4 and full ray tracing are supported. NVIDIA claims that this level of performance can exceed the experience offered by the PlayStation 5 Pro. The GeForce NOW library already includes more than 5,000 games and continues to grow. Those unsure about the service quality can use the free tier or opt for a one-day pass before purchasing a full subscription. That makes cloud gaming an alternative to costly PC upgrades, especially for casual players or people who use lower-end hardware daily.
NVIDIA GeForce NOW aims to prove that you don't always need an expensive PC to play demanding titles. By using cloud servers, you can enjoy high-quality graphics even on older devices.
