The portable gaming laptop market is developing at a rapid pace. After the successes of the Steam Deck, ASUS ROG Ally, and Lenovo Legion Go, more manufacturers are trying to capture the attention of gamers. MSI has just officially revealed the Claw 8 EX AI+ model, which, as one of the first handhelds, uses the new Intel Arc G3 Extreme architecture. The device offers a more powerful graphics unit, a fast screen, and modern connectivity technologies. At the same time, it features a large battery designed to provide long usage without recharging. However, everything indicates that this new product will not belong to the cheaper devices.
New Intel processor and 120 Hz display
The heart of the Claw 8 EX AI+ is the Intel Arc G3 Extreme processor based on Panther Lake architecture. The chip offers up to 14 CPU cores and 12 Xe3 graphics cores, which is intended to provide high performance in both gaming and more demanding tasks. The manufacturer has also included an 8-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1920 × 1200 pixels. The display supports a refresh rate from 48 to 120 Hz and VRR technology, with a brightness of up to 500 nits. Users also have access to a maximum of 32 GB of LPDDR5X memory and a PCIe 4.0 SSD.
Large battery and modern connectivity
MSI equipped the handheld with an 80 Wh battery, the same as in the previous Claw 8 AI+ model. The device also offers Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a microSD card reader, and a classic 3.5 mm headphone jack. The total weight is around 785 grams. The manufacturer has not yet disclosed the official price, but according to leaks, the device could cost around $1499. The market premiere is expected on June 23.
MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ is set to be one of the most powerful handhelds using new Intel chipsets. High performance and modern components may also mean a very high price, which could limit interest from less demanding gamers.
