The gaming monitor market has been increasingly focused on extremely high refresh rates for several years now. Not long ago, the standard for gamers was 144Hz or 240Hz, and today manufacturers are already vying for 1000Hz. LG has just officially joined this race and announced the first monitor offering a native 1000Hz at Full HD resolution. This is a significant step compared to earlier models that could only achieve such results by lowering the image quality to 720p. The manufacturer claims that the new model will provide even better smoothness and minimize motion blur during dynamic online games. In practice, however, some experts still believe that modern OLED monitors can offer better motion clarity despite lower refresh rates.
LG aims to set a new standard for e-sports monitors
LG 25G590B is the first monitor on the market offering a native 1000Hz at 1080p resolution. Previous constructions from AOC, Philips, or Samsung achieved similar values only after switching to a special 720p mode. However, LG believes that Full HD will be a much more sensible solution for gamers in 2026. The monitor uses an IPS LCD panel and is set to be equipped with Motion Blur Reduction Pro technology. The manufacturer also announces additional AI systems to improve image quality while gaming. LG emphasizes that the new model is primarily designed with professional e-sports and the most demanding online gamers in mind. The company also believes that reaching 1000Hz is an important milestone for the entire gaming monitor industry. Just a few years ago, many experts predicted that such a result would only be achievable around 2030. However, the development of the OLED market and increasing competition have clearly accelerated the entire technological race.
OLED may still be better despite lower refresh rates
Despite LG's impressive results, some experts point out that the numbers do not always directly translate to image quality. Today's OLED monitors offering 720Hz can still provide better motion clarity than classic 1000Hz LCD panels. This is mainly due to the much faster pixel response times in OLED technology. LG is well aware of this, which is why the new monitor features additional blur reduction systems. The problem, however, is that LCD increasingly looks like a technology trying to compensate for its limitations with extreme refresh rates. OLED remains a more expensive solution, but for many gamers, it simply offers better image quality and smoother motion. The race between LCD and OLED will evidently continue, especially in the premium gaming monitor segment.
