Sony and LEGO have unveiled a new set dedicated to the first PlayStation console. The LEGO PlayStation lets you build a replica of the original console and its distinctive controller. The build consists of 1,911 pieces and measures 26 cm wide when complete. The creators also hid references to the brand’s history and to two cult classic games from the original PlayStation. Sales of the set will begin in early October 2026.

Original PlayStation Built from LEGO Bricks

The new set was created as a result of a collaboration between Sony Interactive Entertainment and the LEGO Group. Its main element is a replica of the original PlayStation console, which debuted in 1994. When assembled the model is about 26 cm wide. The manufacturer describes it as built almost to a 1:1 scale of the original. Building the entire set requires exactly 1,911 bricks. The set also includes a replica of the PlayStation controller, letting you recreate the distinctive appearance of Sony's first console. However, the build is not just a static model meant to sit on a shelf. The LEGO PlayStation is equipped with working mechanisms for the Power and Open buttons. The controller can also be connected to the console, replicating the way the original hardware was used. LEGO designers worked with Sony to create details that reference the early days of the PlayStation brand. Among other things, the build includes hidden references to the console's history. The whole set was designed not only to resemble the original PlayStation visually, but also to evoke the gaming experiences tied to it. For collectors, it can therefore be both a model to assemble and a decorative item related to gaming history.

Gran Turismo and Ape Escape are also included in the set

One of the more interesting elements of LEGO PlayStation is two separate dioramas devoted to games that debuted on Sony's first console. The first nods to Gran Turismo and shows a miniature racetrack. The track also includes scaled-down cars that you can use to create your own display. The second diorama is dedicated to Ape Escape. It depicts a nostalgic island featuring the game's signature motif. The designers added the option to swap the blue and red lights on the monkey's helmet. Both scenes can be detached from the main build. That lets the owner display them separately from the console replica. This approach also allows you to change how the whole model is presented without having to take apart the main build. LEGO and PlayStation didn't limit themselves to simply reproducing the console's case. The set includes elements referencing specific games and the brand's history. Those extras are meant to make the build more appealing to longtime PlayStation fans.

The LEGO PlayStation will go on sale on October 1, 2026 in selected countries, including Poland, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, and Portugal. The recommended price is $179.99, €159.99, or £139.99. The set will be available directly from PlayStation starting October 1, and LEGO.com and LEGO stores will start selling it on October 4, with LEGO Insiders getting early access. The box contains 1,911 pieces, a replica of the console and controller, and dioramas inspired by Gran Turismo and Ape Escape.
