iPhone 18 Pro with a major change under the hood? New leak reveals Apple’s plans

Calendar 6/29/2026

Although the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro is still some time away, more information about Apple's upcoming flagship keeps appearing online. This time attention was drawn to a leak allegedly showing the new smartphone's logic board. The most interesting changes are said to involve the A20 Pro chip and its design. According to unofficial reports, Apple aims to improve heat dissipation, expand AI capabilities, and use faster memory. For now, however, these are only unconfirmed reports.

Apple is reportedly preparing a new design for the A20 Pro chip

According to information published by leaker Reptalicant, Apple is preparing significant changes to the design of the A20 Pro processor, which is expected to power the iPhone 18 Pro. The company plans to use Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module (WMCM) technology, which will place DRAM beside the main package instead of directly on top of it. This should improve heat dissipation and allow the processor to sustain high performance for longer during demanding tasks. At the same time, the leak suggests the processor die itself will remain similar in size to the A19 Pro. Apple is expected to adopt faster LPDDR5X memory with a 96-bit bus and a significantly more capable Neural Engine responsible for handling AI features. All of these changes are primarily intended to increase power efficiency and AI processing capability without significantly enlarging the chip. Better cooling could also reduce overheating during prolonged loads. This is the direction Apple has been developing across several generations of its processors. If the information proves true, the iPhone 18 Pro could offer noticeably more stable performance than current models.

The leak sounds intriguing, but it should still be approached with caution

Despite the interesting details, experts emphasize that leaks of this kind concerning the internal design of Apple's logic boards are exceptionally rare. The vast majority of previous reports were based on supply chain information or device spec data, not photos of structural components. That's why it's currently hard to verify the authenticity of the new leak. At the same time, the concept itself seems logical, since Apple has been developing solutions for several years to improve the performance and efficiency of its custom processors. The growing importance of AI-based features means better cooling and a more efficient Neural Engine are becoming increasingly important. So far, however, none of this information has been confirmed by Apple or other reliable sources. The iPhone 18 Pro is still a long way from launch, so the device's specs could change. In the coming months, more leaks will likely surface that will help better assess the credibility of the current reports. Until then, all information should be treated solely as unofficial rumors.

A new leak suggests that Apple plans to redesign the A20 Pro chip in the iPhone 18 Pro, prioritizing improved cooling, faster memory and a higher-performance AI engine. For now, however, Apple has not confirmed these reports, so they should be treated with considerable caution.
